Mini Tummy Tuck Scars May Be Less Visible Than Full Tummy Tuck Scars

One of the considerations for seeking a mini tummy tuck, other than the less expensive cosmetic surgery costs, is the minimizing of the resulting mini tummy tuck scars. Tummy tuck scars that result from a full abdominoplasty will extend from one hip to the other, in the lower abdominal region, and can also be visible around the belly button region. With a full tummy tuck procedure, two incisions are made.

The first full tummy tuck incision is horizontal and the second circles the belly button. These two incisions are made in order to remove excess fat and skin from the stomach region and tighten the abdominal muscles while repositioning the navel. Tummy tuck scars from a full tummy tuck are much more extensive than mini tummy tuck scars.

With a mini tummy tuck, also known as a partial abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck scars are in a horizontal line below the belly button and don not include the scar that is used in a full tummy tuck procedure to reposition the navel. However, the position of the belly button may change a bit, due to the stretching of the skin.

In addition to the mini tummy tuck scars, skin irregularity may result from a liposuction procedure that can be performed in conjunction with the abdominoplasty. With any medical procedure, there are always risks such as those associated with a full tummy tuck, as well as a mini tummy tuck – besides pronounced mini tummy tuck scars.

Along with the chance of pronounced mini tummy tuck scars or full tummy tuck scars, swelling and bleeding may occur. This is especially true with a full tummy tuck procedure.

However, pronounced mini tummy tuck scars and full tummy tuck scars can be mitigated by following pre- and post-op instructions.
