Liposuction Problems are Possible With Any Liposuction Procedure
When considering the possibility of having a liposuction procedure performed, it’s important to note that there are many more factors involved, other than the cosmetic surgery costs. Severe liposuction problems are relatively rare and the liposuction results are usually acceptable to the patient. However, certain adverse issue can arise.
Liposuction problems can occur as the result of anesthesia, both general and local, abdominal organ injury, excessive blood loss, infections and other causes. While an aesthetically pleasing appearance is the goal of almost every liposuction, the actual negative liposuction results may overshadow its positive effects.
For example, while liposuction problems arising from anesthesia are rare, any type of heavy sedation can be dangerous if the physician is not familiar with tumescent anesthesia or adequately trained in proper sedation and general procedures. In this case, the ultimate liposuction results can be life threatening.
Even local anesthesia can be dangerous if the maximum recommended dosage is exceeded. This can often occur when the patient’s desire for the removal of too much fat in one session can lead liposuction problems associated with an extreme surgical procedure in which the liposuction results are considered unreasonable. This is one of the fundamental reasons why a solid initial consultation is so important in order to set reasonable patient expectations.
Synthetic anesthesia can be even more dangerous and can lead to even greater liposuction problems, as a result. This is why the patient should not be the one to arbitrarily determine the goal of the liposuction results insofar as amount of fat to be removed and types of anesthesia involved in the procedure. Improper use of a synthetic anesthesia can easily lead to suppressed breathing reflexes, resulting in asphyxia.
Finally, another possible category of liposuction problems includes blood clots of the legs. If the liposuction results in a blood clot, that clot can eventually travel from the legs to the lungs, resulting in a fatality. Most of these issues are avoidable with proper medical specialist training and good initial consultation that can effectively deal with liposuction problems before they can occur.
